I enjoy a challenge.

I got rid of these items for the August Declutter ChallengeThis is week 2 of the August Declutter Challenge, in which Beth of My Simpler Life and Marcia of Organising Queen invite participants to find and photograph 7 things each week that they have successfully decluttered--that is, gotten rid of. It's not really that much of a challenge for me, really, since I am always finding tons of stuff lying around here that I know I can live without. But I wholly support the principle of the thing, and so I thought I'd join in. Here are my 7 things for this week, plus 7 things to make up for the week I missed:
1. a vial of glitter! I think I will bring this to work (the public library) and dump it in with the boxes of supplies we keep handy for craft programs. Kids adore glitter as much as the custodial staff despises it.
2. compasses. I don't think I need one, much less three (even though Anna Maria Horner has posted a lovely tute for making beautiful, perfect circles for sewing into quilts and the like that has me seriously tempted). These will go in the Goodwill pile.
3. scissors! I love scissors, but so does my mother, and the result is that there are now several pairs in every room of the house. These will go to Goodwill, or else the library's crafting stash.
4. a pink pencil box. I don't need, nor would I ever want, a pink pencil box. Goodwill.
5. promotional teddy bear, still in its plastic box. Goodwill.
6. 5-1/2 crayons. Library's craft stash.
7. Combination lock that I used in high school. I was feeling pretty smug about still being able to remember the combination and open it when I realized that the locking mechanism no longer worked--you could twist the dial any old way and the thing would still open. Oh well--garbage.
8. box of new pencils. either Goodwill or library supply closet.
9. a really big pencil that says "California" and also "Made in Japan" that is missing the eraser. Would this be worth putting in the Goodwill pile? It's sort of cool, but not something that I could imagine anyone actually wanting to spend money on.
10. a wooden toy/musical instrument that my sister made when she was little. I believe you're supposed to rub another wooden dowel (such as a giant pencil?) along the ridged edges and it makes the little propeller on the end twirl. It also makes a noise while you do this. Hmm... Goodwill?
11. and 12. Greek and Latin vocab flashcard sets, for the super geeky. I wonder if these would sell in the library's book sales?
13. two unopened packs of large-sized, lined index cards. Goodwill.
14. a gluestick that has seen better days. Garbage.

These are all things, by the way, found in or around the desk at the top of the stairway. Why is there a desk at the top of the stairway? Well, because it wouldn't fit through the narrow doorway of bedroom #3, and bedrooms 2 and 4 already had similarly large and clunky desks in them, and we'd already had to haul the heavy thing up 14 steps. So, it was left at the top of the stairs (where I don't think anyone has actually used it for anything other than a place to leave laundry and other random stuff), and it's been there ever since. Did I mention that my mother also loves to collect huge, heavy, cumbersome furniture? There are 3 more of these wooden behemoths downstairs.

Trish, not a neatness superhero :) an organised superhero :) :)

I have a post somewhere on the blog - the difference between neat and organised.

Here you go
http://organisingtips.blogspot.com/2008/05/what-does-it-mean-to-be-organised.html

I just had a thought, I'm sending out an ezine tomorrow called Creatives! you can get organised. If you want to see it, why don't you sign up at http://takechargesolutions.org - you can always unsubscribe after a few weeks if it's not "you" :)

Love and success
